The Park of the Subasio Mountain is situated in the region Umbria and has a superficial extension of around 7400 hectares of protected area.
The Subasio has a height of 1290 meters and colleague the historical centers of Assisi, Spello and Nocera Umbra.
The city of Assisi is built with the pink stone of the mountain and its historical center it belongs to the Park; also the "Song of Creatures" by S. Francesco is the testimony of the sense of admiration and wonder that the nature of the place had created in the mind of the monk of Assisi.
On the slopes of Subasio, among the vegetation we find a crowd of different plants: from the traditional olive to the maple, from the ilex to the beech tree, up to the green lawns very used for making to pasture the animals. There are also many animals that populate the Park; some types of birds can be admired as the jay, the buzzard, the goshawk or other animals as the wild boar, the badger or the fox.
From the Subasio Mountain many paths are issued by to cross for long walks afoot, departing from characteristic suburbs as Armenzano, Collepino, S. Giovanni, that allows to reach the lawns, where it is possible to glimpse every now and then nice little animals such as the woodpecker, the squirrel, the porcupine or the wild cat.
The Subasio M. is also rich of historical-artistic testimonies as the Castle of Armenzano or the strengthened suburb of Collepino.
